Lost Boys and Lost Girls Personal History Project

During the early phases of government attacks in Southern Sudan, when many of you were on your journey in search of safety, you may recall being interviewed by field workers from Save the Children Sweden.  They were in Ethiopia to photograph and interview many thousands of Lost Boys and Girls, and possibly on site elsewhere along your journey. These field workers gathered as much information as they could in hopes that it would help to reunite you with your families when the war ended.  This effort was ultimately unsuccessful due to the length of the war; however, the records were digitized.  Nearly twenty years later, the files are now available to be returned to you--their rightful owners--through AZ Lost Boys Center and Ithaca College.  We are inviting you to request a copy of your personal history record and will do our best to locate it among the nearly 18,000 records.

The value of these files to different Lost Boys and Lost Girls will depend on their individual circumstances. Since many of you were very young when you fled to Ethiopia, reviewing your file may be a way for you to begin to reconstruct a family history and ultimately reconnect with your families. The files in this database are not available for scholarly or journalistic research. They are the property of the person that they represent and available only to that person.

At the request of many Lost Boys and Girls, we are developing a website where your record and current information can be posted as a means to help you locate one another.  The decision whether to include your information on this site rests with you, and you may authorize us to do so below.
